Valley Metro’s South Central Light Rail Extension will enhance mobility throughout downtown Phoenix, connecting riders to South Phoenix, university campuses, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The 5.5-mile extension includes an expansion of the light rail system’s operations and maintenance center.
Supporting PGH Wong Engineering, Burns provided a variety of systems design services:
Construction of the South Central Light Rail Extension is scheduled to complete by 2024. Burns is providing construction services including permitting, special inspections, and general oversight.
Previous Valley Metro projects include supporting PHG Wong on the 1.6-mile Northwest Phase II extension. Burns delivered mechanical and fire protection design services for two traction power substations and two signal buildings. Construction completed in January 2024.
