Burns Serves as Consulting Engineer for Ohio Microgrid Utility

December 10, 2024

Burns will serve as engineer of record for the country’s first microgrid utility — and first county-wide utility to be established in nearly a century.

Cuyahoga Green Energy was created in 2021 to enhance energy resilience across Northeast Ohio. The Cuyahoga County-led utility plans to leverage federal funding and private financing to install clean energy projects throughout Greater Cleveland. The microgrid enables participants to operate totally “off-the-grid” in the event of a power outage.

Burns will initially focus on design of distributed energy resources for a Euclid-area industrial zone, interconnecting manufacturers, a major distribution center, and welding school — among others.

Burns is supporting Compass Energy Platform, the contracted operator for Cuyahoga Green Energy. Engineering services include electrical and power systems design, asset optimization, and communications and technology systems design.
