Burns Provides Design Expertise for the Duke Energy + Electrada Fleet Mobility Microgrid

November 26, 2024

Burns contributed design expertise to support a first-of-its-kind electrification center for commercial and public electric fleets.

The Duke Energy + Electrada Fleet Mobility Microgrid is the country’s first fleet charging depot capable of sourcing power either from the grid or from a renewable energy microgrid. Duke Energy is collaborating with charging-as-a-service provider Electrada to offer the zero-emission charging infrastructure solution at the utility’s Mount Holly, North Carolina technology innovation center.

“This collaboration proves that electric mobility at scale is compatible with reliable and renewable grid service and will build trust in fleets who are ready to embrace the transition,” said Electrada CEO Kevin Kushman in a Duke Energy press release.

Designed to accommodate light-, medium- and heavy-duty electric fleet vehicles, the center’s distributed energy resources include six charging stations, solar photovoltaics (PV), and a battery energy storage system (BESS). Daimler Truck North America and Salem Carriers are among the intended users.

Burns supported Electrada with infrastructure system design and integration. Scope included electrical and civil design services.
