Burns is supporting Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) incorporate state-of-the-art train controls within a critical section of the agency’s underground light rail system.
Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems provide constant evaluation of trolley car positions, enhancing system safety, reliability and efficiency. SEPTA plans to modernize CBTC systems along the Route 34 Trolley Tunnel between 13th Street and 40th Street stations.
Burns will provide technical consulting and project management services to guide the CBTC system overhaul from the planning through design/build stages.
This project builds upon recent experience leading CBTC system design for SEPTA’s Media/Sharon Hill City Trolley Lines.
