Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is scaling up utility infrastructure to accommodate ambitious electrification initiatives and major capital expansion plans.
To ensure LAWA can carry out future projects without undermining airport resilience, the governing body for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is turning to consulting firm HNTB for a new utility strategic plan.
Burns is supporting HNTB throughout the plan’s development. Specific tasks include producing a microgrid roadmap, contributing expertise toward utility demand forecasts, clean energy feasibility studies, and infrastructure design strategies.
LAWA is reimagining LAX through a $30 billion program of terminal modernization and expansion projects, all while working toward a goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2045.
The utility strategic plan is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
